Release Campaign Structure for Music: Broad, Genre and Artists Ad Sets
A release campaign for a song uses a sales objective optimized on ViewContent, a budget set per ad set, and three ad sets: Broad, Genre and Artists. Every ad set also requires interest in Spotify and Apple Music, and every ad links to the artist smartlink with tracking tags.

The campaign setup
The campaign uses the sales objective and optimizes on the ViewContent event of your pixel, so the pixel and the server-side events must fire before anything is spent. The budget sits on the ad sets, with a default of 20 in the currency of the ad account per ad set per day. Each ad uses a Listen Now button, the song.so smartlink as destination and URL tags that end in utm_content with the ad id. AI enhancements and multi-advertiser ads are switched off so Meta does not alter your creatives or place them next to other advertisers.
The three ad sets
| Ad set | Targeting | Purpose |
|---|---|---|
| Broad | Only the Spotify and Apple Music group, no further interests | Lets Meta find listeners without narrowing the pool |
| Genre | Genre interests combined with the Spotify and Apple Music group | Reaches fans of the genre who use streaming services |
| Artists | Interests resolved from similar artists, plus the streaming group | Reaches the audience of artists who sound like you |
The streaming group works as a must-match layer. Interests such as electronic music or house music are combined with OR logic, and the person must also match Spotify and Apple Music. The builder refuses to continue when it cannot resolve that group completely, so you never end up with half a targeting setup.
Where genre and artist interests come from
You do not have to guess interests. The builder analyzes the sound for genre, language, similar artists and vibe, then resolves names to real Meta interest ids. Names Meta does not know are listed, never guessed. Meta can target very few artists directly, so the Artists ad set also reads genre tags from related artists and builds interests from those.
Geo targeting presets
Locations come from country groups. GSA covers Germany, Austria and Switzerland. Tier 1 covers high-income markets, Tier 2 and Tier 3 cover the next groups, Balanced combines Tier 1 and part of Tier 2 as a default for international releases, and EU covers the European Union. You can also set an explicit list of countries for each ad set. For German-only audiences you can add a language filter.
| Preset | Coverage |
|---|---|
| GSA | DE, AT, CH |
| Tier 1 | Twenty high-income markets such as US, GB, DE, AU, CA, NL, SE, NO |
| Tier 2 | Southern, Eastern European and Asian markets such as IT, ES, PL, JP, KR |
| Tier 3 | Emerging markets such as BR, MX, TR, IN, ID |
| Balanced | Thirty countries across Tier 1 and Tier 2 |
| EU | European Union member countries |
Warm audiences
Followers, engagers and site visitors are not excluded by default. If you want to exclude them, you can pick audiences per ad set, or switch on automatic exclusion of the artist Instagram follower and engager audience and the site visitor audience. The reason for the default is that warm listeners are cheap and fast, and excluding them on every campaign limits scale.
Creatives and placements
The Meta music framework asks for at least 20 different ads per test: about half the artist performing the lyrics and half straight-to-camera hooks with a clear call to action. Placements are set to Instagram Reels and Stories, because native vertical video works best there. Meta is currently changing how placement control works, so read the value rules workaround before your next launch.
Every campaign is created paused unless you explicitly ask for it to go live, and every id created on Meta is recorded in song.so so the optimizer can take over. Continue with how automated Meta campaigns work and the automation rules.
